Pressing Forward
It was Kramac Printing that brought offset and color printing to Vincennes, Indiana. Before the company opened for business October 9, 1959, during the Eisenhower era, only black-and-white letterpress had been available locally, but Gilbert Kramer changed that. Gil was a Vincennes native who had gone to Washington, D.C., and earned some impressive credentials in printing. He had worked for both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Geographic Society. After that, he was ready to come home and start his own printing company.

Offering Proof of Success
Within a year, the business had to push out into a larger building. Two more expansions followed, and finally, in 1968, Kramac Printing took over a spacious location at 424 Vigo Street. There it has remained, occupying half a city block. It still makes periodic adjustments to accomodate major equipment upgrades.

Gil's son Brian, an Indiana University graduate, joined the company in 1977. His other son, Kenny, graduated from Indiana State University with a graphic arts management degree, and brought that expertise into the business in 1982. Two years later, with Kramac Printing marking its 25th anniversary, Gil turned operations over to Brian and Kenny.

Perfecting the Product
Together, the brothers led the company into a new area of growth in 1990, when it began printing inserts for CD jewel cases. Kramac developed exceptional skill at crafting booklets and backliners to the exacting measurements of the CD case. Now Kramac is rated as a preferred printer by two of the world's largest CD replicators

Brian and Kenny still place heavy emphasis, though, on pleasing their commercial customers. To keep their company's edge, they continually invest in new equipment. In fact, they praise their new Speedmaster 74s in a Heidelberg ad appearing in a recent issue of Printing News Midwest.
